Seattle Study Club was founded over 30 years ago. Over that time, we’ve applied our learnings to establish a proven model for how to successfully run a dental study club, and we’re excited to pass this knowledge on to you. As you start your Seattle Study Club journey, please read a quick welcome from our founder, Dr Michael Cohen, and read our primer on how to best launch, grow, and manage your club.
“I entered private practice in 1977, and quickly learned that general practitioners had well-established referral patterns. I needed to figure out how to increase the number of referrals I was getting from the relatively small number of dentists willing to give me a chance, and then increase that number of referring doctors. As I saw it, the solution was about creating something that would make my practice a more attractive place to refer patients.
Formation of a study club addressed both of my goals. Study clubs had existed for years, but I wanted to create something unique—a forum that elevated the general level of knowledge and encouraged members to actively participate so they could learn from each other. Our meetings initially focused on case presentation to improve our diagnosis and treatment planning skills, and as the club progressed, we began to invite local and national lecturers, for both case presentation and lecture, and incorporate clinical sessions.
The content has evolved over time, but that goal of expanding our knowledge base with interactive collaboration and industry-leading insights remains true to this day. I am excited to welcome you to Seattle Study Club and look forward to supporting you in the development and success of your own club.
